We sent our video team to discover Barcelona’s mouth-watering Chocolate Museum and find out what all the fuss was about at the city’s greatest choc-tastic cultural institution. From some of the most elaborate chocolate designs you’ll ever see, to hands on workshops for chocaholics of all ages, here’s what the museum has to offer.

The Barcelona Chocolate Museum is a veritable homage to one of the most popular sweet treats on earth. Lauded for its health benefits – when eaten in the the right way – as well as its unique flavour, chocolate has been enjoyed by people across the globe for centuries.

In Barcelona, chocolate has played an important part in the gastronomic culture and there are historic ties between the city’s high society and this most noble of treats. The Bourbon armies are recorded as having been allowed ‘one and a half ounces of chocolate with a quarter of a pound of bread’ each day for breakfast.

Today the Chocolate Museum is one of the city’s most tantalising cultural institutions and attracts visitors of all ages, curious to find out more about the history of this addictive treat. The museum is home to a number of machines, new and old, used in the manufacture of chocolate, allowing visitors to see how chocolate is made – from cacao bean to chocolate bar. There are also chocolate models of some of the city’s most famous landmarks and artworks, such as Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família.

One of the most entertaining ways to visit the museum is to take part in a workshop and become a chocolatier for the day. These are organised throughout the year, with special courses for particular occasions such as Christmas and Easter – when the museum organises a competition to see who can design the most beautiful Easter cake, known as the Mona de Pascua.
